THE PURSUIT is launching in bozeman in fall 2019!
The Pursuit is a non-denominational Christian Church where faith and real life intersect. We are a going to be a group of people who are learning what it means to trust and follow Jesus together. We’re convinced that knowing Jesus is the greatest reality in the universe and participating in his mission to redeem the world is the opportunity of a lifetime.
Being non-denominational doesn’t mean we’re un-connected or isolated and just doing our thing. We are part of the Restoration Movement fellowship of churches throughout the world. We base all our teachings and practices on the Bible. We seek to learn from Christian history and restore the heart and mission of the New Testament church that Jesus continues to lead and guide today.
WHat makes pursuit different?
We’re the new kid in town. While we’re barely up and running (we don’t have Sunday services yet), we’re clear about one thing: We’re not about the show. Many churches put a lot of their energy and resources into planning and producing an attractional Sunday worship service experience. While we’re not opposed to doing things with excellence, we don’t believe that model is the best way to make disciples. We are about changing the world for Jesus one life at a time by utilizing Jesus message and method for making disciples.
Who are we looking for? We are looking for believers who have a pioneering spirit to reach others far from God. We want to give the de-churched, unchurched and irreligious a second chance to meet Jesus through a vibrant church focused on people, not programs. We don’t have all the answers. We know we’ll make mistakes. But our desire is to unapologetically make disciples like Jesus did from day one. We’re excited about joining God in what He’s doing in the beautiful city of Bozeman, Montana.
meet Tony & Disa
Dr. Tony Nelson, Lead Pastor
Family: Tony has been married to his college sweetheart, Disa, for almost 4 decades! He knows that he could not do ministry without her! Disa is a successful business woman and a great ministry partner. Tony and Disa are the parents of two grown children, Craig and Carli. Craig is single, and Carli is married to Adam (Eich). Both love the Lord and live in North Idaho.
Ministry Experience: Pastor Tony and Disa have served in full-time ministry for over 3 decades. They have served churches in Iowa, Nebraska, Arizona and most recently concluded a successful 22-year ministry in Sandpoint, ID, where by God’s grace he ultimately ministered to a church with over 1,000 disciples.
Tony has served on numerous non-profit boards, worked as a regional director for church panting and has lead spiritual growth retreats. He is a sought-after mentor and leadership coach.
Education: BA-Pastoral Ministries from Nebraska Christian College 1981; MA-Leadership from Cincinnati Christian Seminary 1990; Dmin-Leadership and Spiritual Formation from Portland Seminary (Formerly George Fox Seminary) 2013.
Ordination: Non-denominational Christian Church-1981
Published: Crazy Life: Navigating Through Life’s Disruptions without Losing Your Faith. (Morgan James Pub., 2017).
Interests & Hobbies: Tony is an avid outdoorsman. If it has fins, fur or feathers he loves to pursue it. Tony plays golf just enough to know that’s why he would rather fish. In addition, he loves meeting new people, hearing their stories over a good cup of coffee.
Music and Movies: Tony grew up listening to Country and Western music and hasn’t outgrown that habit. He loves a good movie and leans toward action adventure, westerns, and sci-fi.
The Main Thing: Tony is a deeply devoted disciple of Jesus and is focused on raising up other disciple makers to change the world one life at a time. In addition, he really has a passion to help people navigate through life’s disruptions without losing their faith. Having gone through some pretty tough seasons of life himself, where he stood on the brink of atheism, he understands what it’s like to look over the edge and see darkness. He gives glory to God who continues to redeem his life’s disruptions.
